Enabling mechanochemistry with catalytic coatings and LUXOR^Pt

Heterogeneous catalysis offers new possibilities for continuous mechanochemical synthesis. In this application, a LUXOR^Pt coater is used to apply a thin (nanometerscale) platinum or other metal coating to selected screw elements in Thermo Scientific Twin-Screw Extruders. These coated elements act as catalytic surfaces, bringing reactants into direct contact with the catalyst during continuous mechanical processing.

Thanks to the modular extruder design, catalytic zones can be integrated where needed. When catalytic activity decreases, screw elements can be removed and recoated, supporting catalyst regeneration and reuse. This approach provides a flexible platform for developing catalyst-assisted reactions.
